About the journal

A place worth
looking closer.

Hidden European Towns is a growing archive of researched town portraits: the history behind the streets, the culture still lived there, and reasons to spend a little time.

Our editorial approach

Features are researched with AI assistance using tourism offices, museums, heritage bodies and reliable local sources. Each story links to its evidence. They are not firsthand travel reports. Documented history and local legends are distinguished; practical recommendations are editorial judgments.

The photographs

These are real, attributed photographs, not AI-generated documentary images. They are archival views and do not depict current conditions. Every photograph links to its original record, creator and exact reuse license. We resize images to WebP; homepage thumbnails and map pins use display crops. ShareAlike image adaptations retain their stated licenses. Other editorial content is separate from those licenses.

Map and privacy

The atlas uses approximate town-center locations, not attraction entrances. The map provider is credited on the map. Interactive maps load third-party resources; we do not request your location, create visitor accounts, or add advertising trackers.
